*If your learner has taken this course before, or the reading comprehension summer camp course they will be covering the same passages and skills taught in those classes. This is a 6 week course meeting biweekly that will follow the same general format each time. At the beginning of each class we will introduce ourselves and the topic of the day. Students will have an opportunity to share prior knowledge of the skill, then we will begin our lesson. Lessons will include one or more reading passages, discussion, and comprehension questions. Students will be informally assessed of their knowledge of the topic in a variety of ways. I have a deep love of reading. It is my favorite hobby and my favorite subject to teach. My goal for this course is to grow your learner's understanding of reading through teaching comprehension strategies and topics that they will carry into the rest of their school career and beyond through showcasing the beauty and adventure in reading. As a veteran educator, I plan to use my experience and knowledge of working with varying age and ability groups as well as curriculums and tests to help your child grow in their comprehension skills and test taking strategies!
Learning Goals
Students will be exposed to common core comprehension skills and test taking strategies to build confidence and sharpen their knowledge.
