In this individualized class your learner will use a book that has words they can read fairly easily since we are concentrating on improving comprehension skills. We will start with pre-reading activities to warm up. These can include connecting to prior knowledge, thinking about character traits, or considering why authors write different kinds of books. Students will increase their comprehension - both literal (who is the main character) and inferential (why did the character do X) Students will improve their fluency by reading smoother and with more expression (This is an incidental goal - I will work on decoding skills as necessary) Students will improve their decoding abilities by learning new phonics rules and practicing in authentic texts
