Learners read, analyze, and determine the plot of a story using a variety of plot structures including the 5 Ws: Who, What, When, Where, and Why interactive foldable. Learners will also learn vocabulary terms related to the story.

Description

Class Experience

IMPROVE INFERENCING/SUMMARZING/DIALOGUE/DISCUSSION SKILLS 
IMPROVE SPEAKING & LISTENING SKILLS.
PRACTICE ANALYZING/SYNTHESIZING PLOT STRUCTURES OF TEXT.
APPLY CONTEXT CLUES TO DETERMINE WORD MEANING.

Learners will learn the definitions of each plot structure. 
Learners will answer text-related questions about the story using the plot structure as a guide.
Learners can use the various plot structure templates with any story they read.
As a veteran teacher of more than 23 years, I have found that my bachelor’s degree in Exceptional Student Education has helped me know HOW to teach and my master’s degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment has allowed me to design specific curriculum to fit the needs of various learners. All students LEARN DIFFERENTLY based on their strengths and weaknesses.
         I also have the following degrees & certifications: Elementary Education K-6, Middle School English 7-9, English 9-12, and Exceptional Student Education K-12. I also have the following endorsements: Reading and ELL (ESOL).
        I have learned that the most productive method of teaching is the application or transfer step. Students LEARN by DOING and they enjoy doing as long as they are engaged in their learning. Once they understand the concept and why it is important to know and how it would benefit them, they should begin applying the skill in an authentic or real-world setting.
There is no assigned homework, but learners can complete their plot structure template if they do not finish in class.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Each learner is formatively assessed on their knowledge of the plot structure they choose to use each week. Their answers to the text-related questions about the story, and their summary of the story. 
1 hour 15 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
