This is a one-time class that will be part of a series of classes that teach students reading comprehension strategies in a fun and interactive way. In this class on making inferences, students will learn to infer from props and pictures before moving to text. They will learn to look for clues to help infer what is happening in the moment, picture, or text. Students will be asked to bring a prop to class that will serve as a clue to a place the student has been or would like to go. Some prop ideas include a swimming noodle, a baseball bat, or a backpack. We will have a great time inferring where we all want to go! Next, students will infer what happened in several short scenarios. We will discuss in each situation "the evidence" that helped the students make their inferences. Students will learn that more than one inference can be correct, but the goal is to make strong inferences. Finally, students will share how they can use the strategy when reading.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to look for clues in props, pictures, and short text passages to help them make strong inferences.
