How do we cope when bad things happen? How do we grow and change as individuals? What does it mean to be resilient? This engaging reading class explores these questions through powerful stories centered on courage, perseverance, and resilience. Each session begins with a new fiction or nonfiction story from Scholastic Scope magazines, which we will read and discuss together, pausing for reflection and comprehension checks. After reading, students will participate in a variety of writing activities to deepen their understanding and connection to the text. This class will help students to strengthen reading comprehension through guided questions, expand vocabulary and improve reading fluency. Students will also analyze key details, text evidence, and main ideas and build their confidence in reading and critical thinking. This course is designed for 7th and 8th graders who need extra support in reading, want to stay on track, or are looking to challenge themselves. Small group instruction allows for personalized attention while fostering collaboration and peer learning. Students can join or leave at any time - perfect for busy schedules!
