In this workshop, students will learn strategies for reading comprehension and practice with a number of different texts.

This workshop will introduce reading comprehension strategies to help students understand books, articles, and other types of texts they read in English, Social Studies, etc. Strategies that will be covered include: CUT (Circle, Underline, Talk to the Text), understanding vocabulary in context, reading for main idea, reading for specific text questions, and more. Each session is scheduled as such: First session - Introduce reading strategies and model with example texts and example reading comprehension questions. Second session - Practice reading strategies from first class during class and assign a text and reading comprehension questions for homework. Third session - Go over text and reading comprehension questions for homework and practice with a different type of text. Fourth session - Review all reading strategies, close with a third type of practice text.
Learning Goals
Students will learn strategies that can be used to understand all types of texts they read in English, Social Studies, etc.
