Class Experience

Does your learner enjoy Charlie Brown stories? If yes, then your learner would be a great fit in this reading comprehension class as we practice retelling the book "Snoopy and Woodstock Best Friends Forever" using sequencing words in 4 sentences. This book is a Level 2 book in the Ready to Read Series featuring longer sentences.

Students will need to purchase and read a hard or digital copy of the book "Snoopy and Woodstock Best Friends Forever" before class and bring it to class.

This lesson uses an interactive Google Slides Presentation and an optional handout focusing on retelling a story using sequencing words using a combination of direct instruction, interaction, and exploring the book to prove their answers.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Melanie Dufrene, and I am excited to teach classes that will expand your child's vocabulary through social classes and reading comprehension classes. I have been in the education field for over ten years. In this time, I have taught, substituted, and worked as a private tutor to American and international students. As a teacher, I have taught all of the core academic subjects to elementary school students. As a private tutor, I helped local elementary school students with reading and math while I helped my international students learn to speak English.

I am certified to teach Pre-K-fifth grade as well as teach English as a Foreign Language. I get the most joy from getting students to think critically and weigh out the pros/cons of situations when making decisions. I love relating what my students learn in my class to the real world while encouraging them to see things from more than perspective and ask guiding questions to challenge them to dig deeper into our class discussions. Most importantly, I believe in validating student's efforts to provide a caring and encouraging learning environment where students are creative thinkers.

I've known I wanted to be a teacher since middle school, and I've chosen to be a teacher because teachers are life-long learners. I have always been inquisitive, and my dad blames his gray hair on all the questions I asked him as a child.

I believe it takes a team for learners to learn effectively and feel successful. I want to be part of your team and am here for you and your learner. I'm always happy to answer any questions you have about any of my courses.
