US Grade 3 - 4
This class is designed for a student who needs a one on one class designed to improve reading. Students will learn to choose a "just right book". Students will be taught reading comprehension strategies good readers use. Your child will respond to the positive motivation in the class as they share what they are reading. Each week students try out new skills such as making predictions, improving vocabulary and context clues. My aim is to teach the reader to develop their love of reading. Together we will work on building strong reading fluency skills. Students will practice demonstrating retelling and summarizing by using evidence from the text. We will also plan strong essay writing based on what we read, or they may use their own interest list. Each week we will go through the process of planning and writing. Your child will be motivated share what they are reading and writing. As students try out new skills such as making predictions, improving vocabulary and context clues their reading and writing will strongly develop over the course of this class.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the skills that good readers use. They will learn to make connections that broaden their understanding as it relates to every day life. Students will learn to read critically by asking and answering questions they have about the text they are reading. I will conference with my readers (emergent, struggling, reading at or above grade level) every week one-on-one.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My favorite moments with my students happen one-on-one. These moments often take place when a child is reading to me while I take notes, and share what I notice about his/her strengths and needs as a reader. I collect information by listening to a student read, doing a formal assessment, or holding a reading conference.
