Class Experience

The overall learning goals are to provide students with reading comprehension strategies and literacy skills to either provide academic instruction or supplement their existing reading instruction. Students will develop their understanding of, and apply/demonstrate their understanding of; phonics, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, written response to reading and fluency skills and strategies. 

Weekly objectives and learning goals are outlined specifically in the detailed description above labeled "Schedule of Topics".
I am a certified teacher in grades K-6. I currently teach Grade 3 in Connecticut. I received my Bachelor's in Elementary Education in 2016 and my Master's in Curriculum & Instruction in 2017 from the University of Connecticut Neag School of Education. I have experience teaching both in person and online using the content and curriculum outlined for this course.
Students will receive optional homework activities included in the printable workbooks.

It is highly recommended students engage in these activities as part of this course provides students with the opportunity to receive one-to-one feedback and instruction with me in addition to our live classes when they complete these activities. These activities also allow students to apply our weekly learning to texts of their choice and independent reading level. 
Students will be provided with printable workbooks used during and between classes. Workbooks will be sent home twice during the semester (Weeks 1-8 and Weeks 9-16). Additionally, students should have a notebook, pencil and sticky notes (if possible) available to them during all classes. Students will also need to have a book at home accessible to use to apply their learning each week and during live classes. Students should have both Narrative/Fictional and Informational/Non-Fiction books based on the topics focused on during that week (Weeks 1-4 and 9-12 are Fiction, 5-8 and 13-16 are Informational). Lastly, at times, activities will require additional materials such as colored pencils, scissors or glue sticks. It will be made known the week of if a student should bring these additional supplies.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will receive two progress reports (Mid-Semester, Weeks 1-8 and Final Semester, Weeks 9-16).
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
