Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
⭐️ 💫 Who, What, When, Where, Why…and How?! 💫 ⭐️

These are the questions we must answer every time we read a passage!

Sometimes it is easy to glance over words without fully comprehend their meaning, or without understanding what the author is trying to convey - but let’s get ready to change that!

In this reading comprehension class, we will read true short stories, and analyse them as a class to understand the Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How of the story

This class is appropriate for High School grades (approximately 9th-12th), although students may wish to adjust their age range up or down depending on their individual skill level. Please contact me with any questions

We will focus extensively on building vocabulary words, particularly those that frequently appear on “high stakes” testing such as the SAT, ACT, GCSE, and more.

⭐️ 💫 Together We Will ⭐️ 💫
- practice and take turns reading
- improve reading
- focus on reading to remember
- Discovering the: who, what, when, where, why, and how of each passage
- Work on reading closely
- Fiction comprehension: cause and effect
- Nonfiction comprehension: compare and contrast
- Expand our vocabulary

We will also play word games to check for reading understanding

Lessons will include games read along and reading comprehension questions to check reading for understanding.

I can also recommend homework and assignments so that you are able to continue honing your skills between our sessions.

Students will receive the story as well as questions that they can answer after class.

Hello Outschool!

🌍 BACKGROUND 🌏

I am a homeschool mom, and am passionate about everything homeschool/unschool/world school. I have taught in the homeschool community for over 30 years in the United States and United Kingdom.

My children were homeschooled, which gave us the freedom to travel and explore their unique interests.

🌎 EDUCATION 🌍

I was born in the United States (Washington D.C.) and was raised/educated in the United Kingdom. I have degrees in marketing and economics. I have Yoga Instructor training, and have taught yoga, math, cooking and art/art history classes to children in the homeschool community for 30 years.

🌎 TEACHING STYLE 🌍

I strongly believe that students can find joy in any topic so long as it is taught in a way that interests them. I love making topics fun, interesting, and relevant to my students - whether that be a math lesson on dividing fractions, a new yoga pose, or examining the life of a famous painter. My experience as a homeschool mom and homeschool teacher has taught me to be adaptable in the classroom, and I am always trying to innovate the my classroom to provide the best classroom possible.
