Thanks to permission from Hatchette Book Groups, Inc., readers in this course will enjoy the hilarious adventures of MR. POPPER'S PENGUINS by Florence and Richard Atwater. Your scholar will listen to the teacher model the thinking processes a good reader uses in order to maintain comprehension of the story. Readers will also practice the modeled strategies while reading together in class as well as during their independent reading in between classes. Classes will include fun activities to go...
Students will become more adept at stopping to think as they read a book. Readers will have a stronger ability to summarize, determine main idea, discover character traits, determine unknown words and their meanings, as well as determining the use of descriptive language and theme. Readers will finish the class with a stronger ability to comprehend a story as well as greater confidence in himself/herself as a reader.

Before Lesson 2, readers will read Chapters 3 and 4 at home independently. Before Lesson 3, readers will read Chapters 7 and 8 at home independently. Before Lesson 4, readers will read Chapters 11 and 12 at home independently. Before Lesson 5, readers will read Chapters 15 and 16 at home independently. Before Lesson 6, readers will read Chapter 19 at home independently.
