Welcome to 'The One and Only Ivan' book club. This Newberry Award Winning novel is about Ivan the gorilla, and his life in captivity in a shopping mall. This funny and uplifting novel touches on themes of friendship, humanity, and doing what's right. During this book club, learners will take turn reading aloud from the assigned novel. Students will improve their oral reading skills and practice various reading comprehension skills.
I am a 6th year elementary school teacher that focuses on integrating reading skills and comprehension strategies into my overall classroom environment.
1. Students will need a copy of 'The One and Only Ivan.' 2. Handouts will be provided weekly for supplemental learning. 3. Students may wish to bring paper and writing tools to weekly sessions.
