Class Experience
US Grade 7 - 8
Not only is reading an essential life skill, but it can be a source of entertainment. In this course, students in 7th and 8th grade dive into classic novels for this age group. Meant for struggling readers, or those who need some additional support (dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, learning disabilities, language disorders), the instructor, a certified Reading Specialist, will guide students with: *Reading comprehension *Plot structure *Characterization (direct and indirect) *Vocabulary *Quote...
Students will improve their reading comprehension skills by answering questions and participating in discussions. Students will gain knowledge of new vocabulary words by completing a graphic organizer and participating in discussions. Students will learn/review plot elements (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution) by participating in discussions. Students will analyze text evidence for characterization, and theme by participating in a discussion.
A certified Teacher of English (K-12) and Reading Specialist (P-12) with over ten years of teaching experience with students in grades 6-12.
Homework Offered
Students are expected to read the assigned chapters, complete reading comprehension questions and vocabulary. The number of pagers varies based on the book. The homework should take about 2 hours to complete each week, depending on the reader. **Please contact the instructor for accommodations :).2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
