As an elementary classroom teacher and tutor, I have helped students who were below grade level improve their fluency and comprehension skills. I currently use a similar program with my tutoring students who have not only shown improvement in reading but have become more confident in their abilities as well.
A reading passage will be assigned for homework practice. These are not required to be submitted, but the answers will be posted by Friday for students to self-correct. All passages range from approximately 200 - 300 words.
2 files available upon enrollmentI will provide all reading materials used in the course. I will provide links to Kahoot, Nearpod and Google Slides where appropriate and when used, as well as upload files for parents and students. Printed copies of passages are highly recommended. I also recommend colored pencils, pens, or crayons for students to have on hand. Students will also need to be able to record themselves reading the passage and be able to upload it to the classroom.
Teacher will informally assess fluency and comprehension through video.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Teacher will use Nearpod for some classes. Students will not need to sign up and they will only have access during class time with a teacher-provided link. Google Slides will be available for students for reading passages. Materials are age and grade-appropriate, however, parental guidance is recommended.
