In my classroom, I will be teaching reading comprehension. We will be using different strategies such as predicting, using prior knowledge and making connection. The students will brainstorm together as a class answering the question, " If they were to take a trip, what items would they need to take with them?" With the help of the teacher they will make a list of these items on the chalkboard. Then the teacher will read the book, "Let's Go for a Drive!", to the students. As a class, the students construct a list of items that Elephant and Piggie gathered for their drive. Then the students will compare what items they brainstormed together and the items Elephant and Piggie gathered for their drive. Then they will compare the two.
I have worked and taught in the public school system for over twenty years with grades Pre-K through fifth grade. Reading Comprehension is a passion close to my heart and I enjoy helping students with reading comprehension.
No homework will assigned. The teacher will read the book: Let's Go for a Drive!, to the students. Then there will be an informal class discussion about planning and predicting.
