Class experience
US Grade 3 - 7
Beginner - Advanced Level
Class: Reading Comprehension. The focus is on students remembering what they read. As a teacher I see students struggling to comprehend and recall what they "just read". The student will read one short story per class. (Stories are numbered with the class: such as #1, #2, #3, etc) We will stop at various parts in the story where I will ask general and specific questions on what was just read. Students will answer verbally or in the Chat Box. My style is relaxed and fun. ...
Students will learn to pay attention to what they are reading: the setting, plot, characters, and events. Students will learn to pick out important aspects of the story, to recall, and talk about the story in chronological order. Students will identify what is happening in the story and, why certain things are happing in the story--how the different events are related. I encourage students to be avid readers.
I have a Master's Degree, semi-retired, and now I work with students from kindergarten through high school as a substitute teacher, afterschool tutoring, writing plays and skits, and teaching on-stage acting classes. The plays have presented to the public in theaters and schools. My philosophy; “No one can take away your education.” I encourage students to have fun learning and to take ownership in their education. I have a great rapport with students. I enjoy telling stories, flying kites, cooking on a campfire, building parade floats, tutoring after school, attending students' sports events with their parents. I hear from kids and parents,“Where do you get your energy?” Teacher James
