Class Experience
In this weekly class, students will practice reading skills. We will work on pronunciation, phonics, grammar, and reading comprehension while reading short stories based on the student's language level. This class is tailored for 1-1 teaching to best address the student's needs. Instructions can be provided both in English or fully in Spanish. I usually find that working with both languages is most effective for beginners but full immersion may be expected for intermediate and advanced students. Classes are structured as follows: -Introduction, short check-in (1-2 minutes) -Introduction to new vocabulary words (5 minutes) -Reading (15 minutes) -Reading comprehension questions (5 minutes) -Discussion/Questions (3 minutes) Selected stories will be age-appropriate and I will take into consideration student's interests to help with engagement. Examples of stories used are as follows: Beginner - I create the stories myself. Typically about family, animals, and places. These stories include many adjectives to work on increasing vocabulary. Intermediate - Stories from mundoprimaria.com. Different authors. Topics cover fables, letters, short biographies, celebrations around the world (mother's day, labor day, etc.) Advanced - Stories from arbolabc.com. Different authors. Topics cover the environment, solar system, traveling, friendships, etc. I use PPTs to present the material and recommend students take classes on laptops or computers so they can type as needed using the chatbox. I am currently accepting all levels but our first lesson will include a short and easy reader so I can assess the student's needs and prepare the following lessons. Please be aware that the price includes not only instruction time but preparation of the material for each week.
