Beginner Level
Does your child needed intentional guidance reading instruction from an experienced reading instructor with proven success? I provide a supportive, encouraging, interactive classroom setting that balances targeted reading instruction with engagement. I believe that students need an instructor, a cheerleader and someone that believes in them and what they can accomplish. **This course builds in a systematic sequence, therefore, attending each and every class is essential. If you cannot attend, the replay will always be provided in the classroom. ***I also send materials, extra practices, etc. throughout the week to keep your learner practicing and carrying over the skills and knowledge. **This course can be taught 1:1, also. Message me if you would prefer 1:1 intensive instruction based on your learner's needs. This class will focus on reading skills with an explicit and systematic phonics program that consists of a carefully designed plan to support reading skills. This program is both research-based and evidence-based. This will be a whole group instruction class and is considered to be around the kindergarten level. If you have a learner that is in the first or second grade and you feel they could benefit from going back to the basic foundations of reading skills, this could be the class for them. (Message me with any and all questions that you might have.) The “grade level” will NEVER be mentioned and/or discussed with the learners in the classroom setting. This information is provided for families to review the class skills to determine if it is a good fit for what you are looking for. This class will begin with “getting ready” lessons. These lessons are crucial for learners to attend and complete before moving forward into the first letters and sounds of the class. This class schedule will depend on the learners in the group. I want to move at a pace that will assure all learners will learn and benefit from the instruction and practice that will be provided. The following plan is fluid, however, we will learn in the sequence as provided. This program will teach new skills while bringing back previously-taught skills so students can learn and practice at the same time. The following sequence for the class: Getting Ready Lessons (at least the first 2 classes) - During the getting ready lessons, the learners will be introduced to the class structure, expectations and foundational skills that are crucial to learning to read. After the getting ready lessons have been completed, each class will provide instruction focusing on introducing 1-3 NEW letters/sounds. Each class will provide new sounds, reading passages, phonemic awareness, drill work, word work, irregular words and more. The class will follow a systematic and consistent format due to the research indicating the success of this approach. After the structured plan time, the group will have the option of participating in a fun game or reward activity. Class Materials: Students should bring a whiteboard and marker or paper and pencil.
Learning Goals
Learners will learn the sound-to-symbol relationship between sounds and letters (graphemes) and practice these with the science of reading practice.
