This is Part 3 of a 3 part course. In this third 9 weeks, students will learn 3-5 sight words each lesson in addition to writing, reading, and spelling. Students will learn to have confidence in their reading while socializing in class.

**This is Part 3 of this course series and builds on Part 1 and Part 2. Students will learn over 100 popcorn words in this 3 part course and practice reading them in sentences.
Cassondra Shields (Ms. Cassie): Cassondra has been an ESL (English as a second language) teacher for four years to the age groups 3-15. She graduated from the Honor's Program at The University of Nevada, Reno with a research thesis on adolescent conduct disorder attributes and how those attributes were statistically represented in adult incarceration and recidivism rates based on longitudinal study results. In order to conduct this type of research, Cassondra studied behavior, neurology, and psychology of children for several years as well as additional English and writing courses to write about this type of research. She has brought her expertise on child development and learning behaviors to Outschool as the curriculum developer for Shields Scholars. Cassondra is also a homeschool mom to her own children. Shelby O’Herlihy (Mrs. O) or (Ms. Shelby): Shelby has been involved in Early Childhood/Elementary education for the past 12 years- volunteering at a local elementary school as well as a special education school. She has completed her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Western Governors University and is working towards her Special Education endorsement from the same institution. Shelby has engaged in student teaching in an online environment via the use of Mursion software, and is well versed in creating engaging and innovative lesson plans for all learners. She is passionate about both learning and teaching using technology. She is excited to bring her knowledge and aptitude to Outschool via Shield’s Scholars. Heather Boone (Ms. Heather): Heather has been an Elementary Teacher for the past 10+ years. She has taught in First, Second, and Third Grade, giving her background knowledge in a variety of different levels and skill sets. Heather has also been an online ESL (English as a second language) teacher for five years to the age groups 4-15. She graduated from the Honors Program at Bloomsburg University with a degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. She then continued her education by obtaining a Master's Degree in Special Education. Heather's expertise in the elementary classroom, coupled with her online teaching has her excited to teach on Outschool via Shield's Scholars.
There will be no formal homework, however there will be printable booklets containing the lesson sentences. There will be two booklets available per lesson - one that contains all of the mnemonic device photos above the sentences and one without the photos for advanced practice.

There will be no formal assessment. I want these classes to be fun and encouraging, not stressful.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Because of this age group, parental supervision is strongly advised. We will use NearPod for every single lesson, meaning your student will likely require your assistance in getting it set up for them as well as helping them navigate the lesson the first one or two times.
We will use NearPod for every single lesson. Having the NearPod lesson up and ready to go for your learner is required for participation.
