Reading Can Be Puzzling: CVC Word Blending, Phonics, and Spelling Practice
In this course, learners will use a gaming resource called NearPod to practice beginner reading, phonics, and spelling in English by doing word puzzles. Each lesson will focus on several consonants, one short vowel sound, and sight words.

Class Experience
Students will improve their understanding of consonant and short vowel sounds while learning the basics of independent reading.
I have been an ESL (English as a second language) teacher for three years to the age groups 3-7 and am currently teaching my own 4 year old how to read using this same approach. I created "Reading Can Be Puzzling" curriculum and after 6 months of solely using my own lessons with her, my daughter is reading independently at newly 4 years old.
No formal homework will be assigned, but printables will be available for the learner to print out and practice on their own time between lessons.

About an hour prior to class, I will send out a classroom post containing that day's NearPod hyperlink and code. There are a few different ways you can access the lesson: The hyperlink will take you straight to the NearPod lesson via your browser. The code is for the NearPod app if using a phone or tablet. Upon enrollment, you will receive a welcome email with an attached pdf on how to use NearPod and how to set it up for your learner. NearPod is simple, but if new to using this resource please take 5 minutes to familiarize yourself with it before we start class. You can also message me at any time with questions! I am happy to answer.

There will be no formal assessments, but we do reach out to parents/guardians if we think, as teachers, that your child should be moved into a more difficult course.

This class uses NearPod, which is a separate online resource. **NearPod is necessary for your learner to participate in this course!** Parents and/or guardians, please read the announcements page prior to class to get your learner set up before class begins. Your learner may also need help throughout the lesson to complete the games and use the features. This class is for very young learners who may not fully understand how to click on a computer or set up NearPod on their own.
www.nearpod.com or the NearPod application on a tablet/phone will be used. The link and code to the lesson content for each week will be updated the hour prior to class by me. **You do NOT need to create a NearPod account to join the lesson.
