Reading Camp! Word Families With Cake and Ice Cream

Each day we practice a different CVC word family blend. Learners earn cakes and giant scoops of ice cream on my whiteboard for each word they read.

Description

Class Experience

Learners will take turns reading two words each per turn. Then, they are asked to do a beat box rhyme with those two words. The goal being, to help learners realize the words rhyme and have the same ending sounds. Don’t worry, they won’t be forced to beat box if they’re too shy. After each turn, they can pick a number to reveal a cake. Once the cakes are all taken, we start building a giant ice cream cone. Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

1 hour 20 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
