Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 6
In this session, your child will be assessed using a standardized testing tool designed to gauge your child's reading level to help you tailor your child's reading curriculum more effectively at home.

This assessment is short and thorough. It is not U.S. state specific, but it is recognized nationally as a standardized reading tool to help promote literacy amongst children. It is widely used to help students in traditional classroom settings, but can also be used as a tool to help homeschooled children excel!

Beginning in kindergarten, there are certain phonemic and phonological awareness skills children should begin to show mastery toward. As they move up in grade level, there are other reading skills they should begin to show mastery of centering reading fluency and comprehension abilities. This test is designed to illustrate this so teachers, parents and/or tutors are informed how to best help their students make academic progress at home and in the classroom.

HOW IT WORKS:

This reading benchmark assessment is designed to be performed three times a year at the beginning of the year (BOY), middle of the year (MOY) and end of the year (EOY). Typically, the specific times are August, January and May.

Based on your child's scores on each benchmark assessment, your child may or may not receive recommendations for progress monitoring to help improve any weak or underdeveloped skills shown via the test results.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

1. Your child will be assessed using a nationally recognized testing tool during our 15-minute session (BOY, MOY or EOY).

2. After the session, you will receive the results of your child's test, along with a complete report and recommendations for progress monitoring before the next test.

3. If you received any progress monitoring recommendations, you are expected to follow this plan to ensure your child continues to show improvement.

4. If you enroll after the typical timeline of when testing is performed during the school year, your child will be assessed using the closest timeframe. For example, if you enroll in this class in September, your child will be assessed with the BOY tool. If you want to enroll in December, I will recommend you wait until the January timeline for the MOY test.

If you have any additional questions, please send me a message and I would be happy to answer them.
