US Grade Kindergarten - 4
I have over 12 years of teaching literacy to elementary students (Kindergarten to grade six) and have been extensively trained in the LLI program along with Fundations. I have experience working with students that are below grade level/at grade level/above grade level readers, along with students with special needs, so I can provide guidance for all types of learners. I am adept at helping to challenge students and with helping students close gaps in their reading skills. I will assess your child's reading decoding and comprehension. At the end of the class I will send you a write-up about next steps for their reading instruction. I will provide their current reading level along with their strengths and weaknesses. I will give you a sense of the types of errors they make, decoding strategies they need additional work with, and how strong their comprehension skills are as well. If you and your child like my teaching style we can set up regular tutoring sessions so I can further support their literacy growth. Another option is we can schedule periodic sessions so I can monitor their reading growth for you. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about what to expect during this class or if you would like to schedule a specific time for me to meet with your learner. I'm looking forward to meeting them soon!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from Roberts Wesleyan College
I have a Master's in Elementary and Special Education, a B.A. in Psychology. I am certified to teach in New York State and am also a certified Mindfulness for Children Practitioner. I have been teaching since 2006 and love to break things down and help students discover what works best for them. I have taught grades 1-6 in traditional schools and have experience providing home school instruction. My areas of focus are reading, math strategies, sight words, word study and motivating reluctant writers. I want my students to learn something new, but also discover a little bit about how they learn as that will help them for years to come. I often use humor to keep my students engaged and entertained during my classes. I live with my husband and two naughty cats in Florida. One of my favorite things is to the go to the beach and find fabulous shells. I look forward to seeing your child in one of my classes soon.
