Description
Class Experience
Welcome to the Reading with Purpose book club! In this book club, we will meet for eight weeks over the summer to discuss our books. We will read a book each week, and students will respond with a written reading response and be ready to discuss the reading with their peers. Students will share their thoughts during our discussion and through weekly reading responses. There will be one reading response due every week, and students will have clear instructions and a rubric to help them with...
Students will become more engaged and critical readers and will be able to share their opinions and thoughts with their peers confidently.
I have been running book clubs in person and online for over 10 years. I have experience working with students ages 8 and up and approach all topics in an age-appropriate way. If students need to be redirected, I will do that. I always listen to students and their opinions making them feel heard and appreciated for their thoughts.
The students will need to complete the week's reading prior to each meeting and come to class prepared to discuss. In addition, one reading response is due each week.
A rubric for the reading responses will be provided, as will a list of reading response topics. Books will need to be purchased or rented.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
Books should be pre-read by parents if you have any concerns about content. Reviews can also be found on Common Sense Media, Amazon, Goodreads, Kirkus, and The School Library Journal. All of the books are classified as upper middle grade/YA/adult and may deal with issues typical of those age ranges. CW for violence, murder, racism, sexism, war, death, disability, romance, etc. I am not responsible for any content in the books.
