In this class, I will start out by sharing a paragraph about a fun topic. This is listed in the weekly breakdown. We will discuss what a main idea is and how to find it. We will also discuss how writers add key details to back up their main idea. After that, the students will identify the main idea, details and conclusion by highlighting the shared text. Then, we will begin the writing component. I will model using a graphic organizer to help with writing a paragraph. Good writers look at good writing to learn from those authors and incorporate this into their own writing. That is why this class is 55 minutes with 2 parts. I want the students to see that reading and writing go hand in hand. The topic we will write about will be something all the students can relate to. If time permits, students will write their own paragraphs independently about a topic of their choosing. If a student is more advanced, I will have him/her write a paragraph independently and check in on their work. Students may share their writing if they would like. After 10 weeks, the class cycles back around.
