I'm super excited and will be resuming this class in February 2023. **Taught by a fully certified; qualified English Language and Literature Specialist**. Reading and writing are both important; you can't have one without the other. They are skills that are increased constantly due to little things that most times are not noticed. Whether it is from a book to a poem there will always be a way that it helps out your learner's school performance. I believe we write first and then we read, and the more you read what you write the more you get better at writing. The focus of this course is to in equal balance, and use reading alongside writing, to improve your learner's writing. I will coach your learners to read their writing and to edit and improve their written work. Additionally, we will look at hand-picked written pieces, and learn how to read for meaning. We will look at how writers use language for effect, and structure to build and create the text, as well as learn to make predictions on why we think the writer has used a certain word or phrase. The more your learner can understand the importance of reading, and how this crucial skill helps improve their written expression, and critical evaluation. The best critic of your learner's work is themselves. I will give your learners the tools to make better choices in writing, and support the development of writing fluidity, organization, and opinions given in written work. I will teach your learners to cover different writing genres, learners rarely get enough practice in school to understand, edit, and write: - Use tried and tested techniques to improve structure such as P.E.E, L (Point, evidence, explain, link). - Use FANBOYS to promote a variety of different sentence constructs. - Know how to edit one's work, selecting and replacing irrelevant boring words. - Persuasively. - Balanced arguments. - Using different formats; poems, letters, speeches, essays, articles, blogs, memoirs, diaries, information pieces, and so on. This course will give exposure to the different forms and purposes of writing. I will also teach your learners to evaluate short written texts to: - Understand the obvious. - Question the clues. - Know that 'implicit' isn't just the words on paper, but a deeper meaning. - Critically evaluating the purpose of a written piece. - Understanding the features and formats of different written pieces, both modern and old. Every week, we will discuss a different part of reading or writing, as well as practice our English skills as we learn and develop. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and thank you for stopping by to find out a little more about me, although I am more interested in you! I am from London and live in Buckinghamshire in a rural countryside setting. I love the peace and tranquillity of nature and the outdoors.
I have always had a passion for English, ever since I was a little girl and a fantastic teacher inspired me to read and imagine that anything was possible. Fast forward many years, that dream of becoming an English teacher turned into reality for that little girl that spent hours reading and imagining different worlds.
I graduated from Birkbeck University in London, having taken a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature. I studied everything from Shakespeare through to early 18th Century American Literature. I literally found my calling, I then went to achieve my PGCE equivalent Cert Ed in Education, where I qualified to teach young people aged 14+. In addition to this, I have been a private tutor for children ages 7+ for nearly a decade.
I love working across all age groups, as my approach to learning is both flexible and creative.
The most rewarding thing about my work, is my ability to connect with young people that do not believe in themselves. Teaching English, whether coaching to pass exams, or simply to improve written work or read for meaning, or to develop a hunger for exploring texts, is seeing ‘the moment’, the young person connects with what they are trying to achieve.
So, when I am not teaching, I love to walk my 2 dogs, cook or binge watch TV on Netflix.
If there is not something I offer, please just ask, and I will happily VA VA VOOM it up for you.
