Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
Does your learner love reading tales of far off places, magic, or heroic characters in impossible situations? Then this is the book club for them!

During this multi-Day course, we will meet once per week for 4 weeks. Learners will be expected to pre-read the assigned chapters prior to each class meeting. During class time we will discuss the book, allowing learners time to share their opinions and thoughts on the book. In this club we will focus on reading for fun and enjoyment but I will also engage the students in reading comprehension questions including main idea, inference, character analysis, sequence of events, author purpose and more. I will also provide optional extension activities for your learner to further enhance the reading experience.

Our June session will be reading:
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Book 1: The Lightning Thief (416 pages)

Reading Guide for June session:
Week 1: Chapters 1-5
Week 2: Chapters 6-11
Week 3: Chapters 12-17
Week 4: Chapters 18-22

Our July session will be reading:

Week 2: Chapters 6-10
Week 3: Chapters 11-15
Week 4: Chapters 16-20

I am a kind and encouraging educator who loves any chance to talk about books. In my classes I like to utilize technology such a Nearpod or Gimkit so that each learner has multiple ways to engage and interact with the lesson and others in the class.

Please note that we read one book per month/per session, and that it is the student’s responsibility to acquire and read the assigned reading before class begins. All titles chosen are widely available wherever books are sold/lent and in a variety of formats (physical book, eBook, and audio).
Learning Goals
In this club we will focus on reading for fun and enjoyment but will discuss grade level literary standards such as Key Ideas & Details, Craft & Structure, and Integration of Knowledge & Ideas.

Parental Guidance
Although I choose books I feel are appropriate for all students, I appreciate everyone has differing thoughts and values. Therefore, I do encourage you to please visit commonsense media or another outlet to make sure you feel the books are appropriate for your child. If your child is enrolled in the class, that is your acceptance of the book for your student to read. In my classes I like to utilize technology such a Nearpod or Gimkit so that each learner has multiple ways to engage and interact with the lesson and others in the class.
