Class Experience

Reader's Theater will be a fun time for all!  Students will learn the various elements of putting on a play including, plot structure, voice and dialogue, script reading, acting, and sound effects. It will be a very interactive class where students will be engaged in theatre games, dialogue work, and reading and performing scripts. Students will read scenes from Lion King and the Little Mermaid.  All students will have an opportunity to read lines and participate. This class is great for reluctant and passionate readers alike.
Learning Goals
Reader's theater is a strategy that combines reading practice and performing. Its goal is to enhance students' reading skills and confidence by having them practice reading with a purpose. Reader's theater gives students a real reason to read aloud.

Reader’s theater is a literacy strategy and performative tool I have implemented in all my classes (K-college); it is one of my areas of research; I have years of experience writing and directing plays in my classroom and doing community reader’s theater at the library. I have been part of children’s theater groups and theater courses (Improvisation for Teachers) at the college level.
