Class Experience

This is a great course for students who are new to acting and anyone who loves Roald Dahl's books.

Students will learn voice acting and characterization with the added benefit of increasing both reading fluency and comprehension. No memorization is required. Students will exercise what they have learned by performing Reader's Theater versions of Roald Dahl books.

Each class will begin with vocal warmups.

Week 1 - Introduction to the process of Reader's Theater. Students are assigned roles and perform The BFG script.

Week 2 - Discuss expression and characterization with The Twits script. Students are assigned roles and perform.

Week 3 - Practice characterization with the fantastic characters from The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Students are assigned roles and perform.

Week 4 - Work on the Matilda script with an emphasis on creating emotional character voices.

Week 5 - Discuss the over-the-top characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Students are assigned roles with a focus on exaggeration. Perform.

Week 6 - Discuss what students have learned about narration, expression, and characterization. Work on the James and the Giant Peach script with an emphasis on creating an environment for the audience. Students are assigned roles and perform.

Parents will receive overall feedback about their child's work after the last class.

I teach classes in Theatre and Voice Acting with an emphasis on fun and exploration!

I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education at the University of Utah. I have over 25 years of teaching experience in both traditional and nontraditional school settings. And, I currently hold a teaching license in secondary education in Theatre.

I am a lifelong learner and continue to look for ways to improve my teaching. My goal is to foster a friendly and safe environment for students to explore acting.

When I'm not teaching I love to sing karaoke, kickbox, spend time with my family, and snuggle with my kitties, Ozzie and MoMo.
