This is a great course for students who are new to acting and like to read! Students will learn how to use expression and characterization to perform Reader's Theater versions of classic tales of wonder. Reader's Theater has the added benefit of increasing both reading fluency and comprehension. No memorization is required. Class Outline: Each class will begin with vocal warmups. Week 1 - Introduction to the process of Reader's Theater. Students are assigned roles and perform the Peter Pan script. Week 2 - Discuss expression and characterization with The Wind in the Willows script. Students are assigned roles and perform. Week 3 - Practice characterization with the extraordinary characters from Alice in Wonderland. Students are assigned roles and perform. Week 4 - Work on the Charlotte's Web script with an emphasis on creating new character voices. Week 5 - Work on The Wizard of Oz script with an emphasis on creating an environment for the audience. Parents will receive overall feedback about their child's work after the last class.
