This is a great course for students who are new to acting and love to read! Students will learn characterization with the added benefit of increasing both reading fluency and comprehension. No memorization is required. Students will exercise what they have learned by performing Reader's Theater versions of some of the best known spooky stories. Class Outline: Each class will begin with vocal warm ups. Week 1 - Introduction to the process of Reader's Theater with The Canterville Ghost script. Week 2 - Review voice acting techniques and discuss characterization with The Legend of Sleepy Hollow script. Class discussion about what worked well and what needs to be improved. Week 3 - Practice voice acting techniques and characterization with The Witches script. Class discussion about what worked well and what needs to be improved. Week 4 - Students will use all of the techniques from the last three weeks as they work on the Frankenstein script. Class discussion about what they have learned over the course. Individual feedback about performance. Parents will receive overall feedback about their child's work after the last class.
