This class is for students who enjoy the Dog Man books by Dav Pilkey. Readers' Theater is a wonderful way to broaden a child's understanding of a text, as well as foster confidence in their public speaking skills. Students will receive a PDF script to print or download ahead of class. After introductions, we will chat and tell each other some jokes. We read through the script together once, discussing how to read the parts of a play, switching parts, and stopping to discuss the characters, the scenario, and new vocabulary words. Then, I will assign roles from the script. Before we read aloud, I will lead the class in a vocal warm-up and breathing exercise to calm their nerves. Class will end with a full read-aloud of the script, with children encouraged to bring their new understanding of the situation and characters to their performances, and have fun! Class size will be limited to ensure that students receive individual attention and instruction.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to read a play, and deepen their understanding of the Dog Man characters.
