Junie B., First Grader: Boss of Lunch (Junie B. Jones, No. 19) will be the book read in this club. In our first meeting, we will get to know each other, choose a book club name and work on pre reading activities. Students will be assigned chapters to read at home in preparation for each meeting. (See breakdown below) In class, games, discussions and activities aligned with the book will take place. Our final meeting will be a book celebration where the students can "act out" their favorite scene of the book and create an alternate ending! Weekly Breakdown: Each week students will be given a picture prompt related to the story. It can help stimulate students thinking about a particular part of the story and lead the weeks discussion. Pre selected teacher questions will be answered in break out groups and literary terms such as hyperbole, metaphor, and alliteration will be discovered throughout the selected reading. The character analysis chart will be added to weekly as students learn more about each character. A few pages of the next chapter will be read to help students make predictions about what's to come and motivate them for future reading outside of class. Final class, the students will prepare an alternate ending and act out their favorite scene from the book!

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Mary Jeanty and I hold 4 NYS Professional Certifications in General Education and Students with Disabilities ranging from B-6th grade.
My credentials include a Master’s degree in Special Education and a second Master’s degree in Elementary Curriculum and Instruction. Recently, I began work on my third Master’s degree in School Building Leadership. My favorite grade to teach is 3rd grade and I have taught for 16 years. I really love this field.
I have the ability to differentiate instruction as needed. I believe that all children can learn. All it takes is the right teaching style to reach even the most struggling learners.
When I am not teaching, I am meditating, writing poetry and dancing. I love to dance. Taking classes with me will always be high energy and lots of fun! Can't wait to see you in my next class!
