Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Beginner Level
In this ongoing class, learners will use exciting and engaging readers from the "Whole Phonics" series to increase reading speed and fluency. Each week, we will focus on a decodable pattern. Class is limited to four learners so that each learner has the opportunity to read extensively and get feedback. 

Each class:
1. We will get to know each other with a "Super Important Question"
2. We will use a game or activity for a quick introduction to this week's sound/spelling combination
3. We will learn and practice high-frequency words we will encounter in the day's reading, using the "Heart Word" strategy, which focuses on using the sounds we do know, and remembering the ones that are "tricky."
4. We will read together the week's decodable book. Each learner will receive quick, positive, encouraging feedback.

Please note: Purchase of the Whole Phonics series is NOT required to participate in this class. However, learners who would like to practice outside of class, or who prefer physical books to reading on the screen, may wish to purchase Level 1, 2, and/or 3 readers from https://whole-phonics.com/.

Index cards for the creation of heart word flash cards is also optional.
