Whether your child loves to read or is in need of guided reading practice, this course is perfect for preparing learners to become better readers. In this on-going class that runs from September 2021 through June 2022, we will be reading a different online book together each week. Students should be able to read on a second grade level; however, they do not have to be in second grade. We will be reading electronic books that I will display on the screen. I will model how to read with fluency and students will have the opportunity to practice reading aloud. We will learn new vocabulary words and reading comprehension skills. We will also discuss how to determine the main idea and key details from the stories we read. The preliminary schedule is as follows: Aug 28- Read book, Soccer is a Kick, learn multiple-meaning words, and identify prepositions. Sept 4- Read book, I'd Like to Be, learn how to identify the author's purpose and learn about contractions. Sep 11- Read book, The Drum, identify cause and effect relationships and learn about where to place commas in a sentence. Sept 18- Read book, It's About Time, identify the main idea and important details, and practice the long e and i vowel sounds. Sept 25- Read book, Hugs for Daddy, identify story problem and solution, and use quotation marks to denote dialogue in text. Oct 2- Read book, Blackbeard the Pirate, learn how to visualize the text as you read, and practice past tense verbs with -ed. Oct 9- Read book, High Fives and Other Signs, learn about contractions and homophones. Oct 16- Read book, The Animal Bridge by Marcie Aboff, identify characters, setting and plot, use quotation marks and -ing. Oct 23, 2022- Read book, Jessica Loves Soccer by Joe Slade, make inferences, learn about "kn-" blend and capitalization. Oct 30, 2022-Read book, At the Movies by Rachel Rice, practiced new vocabulary words and retelling the story. Nov 6, 2022- Read book, The 100th Day Project by Elizabeth Strauss, identify adjectives, learn about sequencing and cardinal #'s.
