Children need to read aloud every day but not all carers feel confident to help their little learners practice these skills. That's where I come in! I will guide your child through their reading practice and give tips to grow their skills.

Beginner Level
As a parent it can be difficult to know how to help your child with home reading. It can also be a challenge to fit it into busy schedules. This read to me class gives your child a chance to read to an experienced teacher a couple of times a week and have tailored tips and skills taught to them. I will listen to your child read and ask questions to improve their comprehension. Along the way, I will offer them tips and advice for reading unknown words. I will attend to your child's fluency and help them to improve their oral reading skills. If necessary, I can offer them practice work at their level such as fluency passages. I will ask you to let me know what books your learner is reading so I can read along with them. We will work on: * Fluency and reading rate * Expression when reading * Decoding skills (how to attack new/unfamiliar words) * Comprehension (do they understand what they are reading?) I offer a fun and friendly approach to teaching. I encourage early and reluctant readers by making reading a positive experience, even though it may be a difficult skill for your learner. I am able to explicitly teach children how to read unknown words and pay attention to punctuation when reading. Please feel free to get in touch and request an alternate time for this class :)

I have over 20 years experience as a teacher, including working in school leadership. I am passionate about great quality education and making learning accessible to everyone. I love teaching in all areas of literacy and helping learners build skills and confidence in reading and writing.
I have taught children from 3 years old to 12 years old and love working with a variety of ages. I believe in making learning interesting and using teaching strategies that are proven to work. I offer 1-1 tutoring, classes based on oral language, pre-school classes and special interest groups like Lego or book club. If you have a request please let me know!
