Read to a Teacher! Daily Reading Practice

During this 1:1 (meets on demand) sessions, students can read their daily reading to Mrs. K (certified reading specialist, elementary and special education certified). Students of all elementary ages are encouraged!  

Mrs. K will ask your learner about their book and provide informal feedback for comprehension, fluency, and phonics.  Students bring their own book(s) to read.  Parents can upload the book or share the title in advance so Mrs. K can follow along better.

What will be taught?/What topics will be covered?
As your learner reads aloud I will be focusing on their fluency, phonics, and decoding.  We will pause and practice fluently decoding words.  We will also pause to discuss the story and focus on comprehension.  

How will the class be structured?
Your child will practice reading their book as Mrs. K pays attention for fluency, phonics, and decoding needs.  Then we will pause a few times to discuss and ask questions about the book for comprehension as well as to focus on fluency.   There will be slides/whiteboard when needed to practice fluency with certain sentences, decoding certain types of words, and even to post questions to think about while reading.

Students who read the recommended 20 minutes a day, outside of school, encounter 1.8 million vocabulary words.
