Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 6
In this one-time, private class, your child will be given a reading assessment(s) to determine his or her reading level. Class will proceed as follows:

1. Where to Start Word List
*Your child will be asked to read multiple different words from word lists.

2. Reading Assessment
*Your child will be given a short book to read. Based on the book, your child may be asked to read aloud and/or silently. After reading, I will ask your child several comprehension questions.

3. Additional Reading Assessments
*Depending on how your child scored on the first assessment, your child may be asked to complete another assessment with a higher or lower leveled text. Again, your child will be given a short book to read aloud and/or silently. After reading, I will ask your child several comprehension questions about the new book. Your child may also be asked to read other lists of words.

Within 48 hours of the completed assessment, you will receive a copy of your child's assessment(s), along with my professional summary of your child's reading strengths and areas of growth.

*Please note that your child's assessment(s) may not last the full class time, if I'm able to determine your child's instructional level after just on book.*

**Please note that your child's full assessment(s) may not finish in the allocated class time. If our allocated class time is almost up, I will let your child finish the book he/she is currently reading and ask any remaining comprehension questions. However, if after this time, your child's final reading level has not yet been determined, I will ask if you'd like to book another session to finish the assessment OR if you'd like me to send you the unfinished assessment results and my professional summary of your child's reading strengths and areas of growth.**

***Please note that the total cost for this assessment takes into account the time I will spend outside of class time scoring the assessment, writing my recommendations, and compiling resources.***

I have my Bachelor's Degree in Childhood and Special Education and my Master's Degree in Literacy. Before choosing to be a stay-at-home mom, I worked in a public school as a second grade teacher, third grade teacher, and reading specialist for kindergarten-fourth grade. In addition to teaching the typical public school curriculum, I have taught students with disabilities and 504 plans, prepared third and fourth grade students for state testing, and taught English Language Learners. I have practice giving many different reading assessments including F+P's (Fountas and Pinnell), DRA's (Developmental Reading Assessment), STEPs, QRI's (Qualitative Reading Inventory), ESI's + PSI's (Elementary and Primary Spelling Inventories), and many different phonics and phonemic awareness assessments. Currently, I am an online ESL teacher and a college professor who teaches undergraduate and graduate students how to become excellent teachers and literacy specialists. I hope to see your student in my classroom!
