US Grade 5 - 8
Did you know that many middle schoolers struggle to understand what they read? They guess at answers, skip key details, and lack the tools to really comprehend text. Parents are often left wondering how to help at home—and students lose confidence in class discussions and on tests. We are here to help! 👧🏽 Who This Is For: Students in grades 5–8 who want to improve their reading comprehension Learners who feel frustrated, bored, or unsure during reading assignments Parents looking for a fun, structured way to help their child excel in reading 💡 Why work with us? Students will boost their reading comprehension confidence through engaging stories, nonfiction passages, and brain-boosting strategies. By the end of each class, they’ll walk away with a deeper understanding of what they read—and how to talk and write about it. 🔍 What We’ll Do (Class Experience): Each week, we’ll become reading detectives by: Predicting what our passage will be about Reading aloud and together—learning to pause, question, and analyze as we go Using strategies like context clues, main idea mapping, and character tracking Discussing what we’ve uncovered in a safe, supportive group Applying our skills through a quick comprehension game or quiz Each class introduces a new passage, theme, or genre—from fiction to nonfiction, mysteries to memoirs. 📘 Students Will Receive: A Reading Strategy Cheat Sheet they can reuse in school and at home PDF copies of each weekly text Comprehension graphic organizers to build skills visually Optional homework with teacher feedback (for extra practice!) 🧭 Our Weekly Focus Might Include: Author’s purpose Character motives and development Text structure Main idea & supporting details Making inferences Summarizing and synthesizing Have questions? Reach out to us and we will happily answer.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to determine the main idea of a text, identify supporting details, and summarize information accurately.
Students will evaluate character motivations, relationships, and actions, as well as understand how these elements influence the plot and themes of a story.
