In this two-day class, learners (ages 8-12) will read aloud and discuss a story about dogs. They will learn note-taking strategies and use a book report organizer to write a book report.

Class Experience

In this class, students will:
1.  Identify the title and author of the chapter book, "Dogs and More Dogs."
2.  Name the "genre" of the chapter book as "nonfiction."
3.  Pronounce and define vocabulary words:   breed, canine, mammal, mastery, repetition, temperament, train
5.  Use a book report organizer to take notes and record information as they read the text.
6.  Describe the "main idea" and "details" of a text.
7.  Compare and contrast similarities and differences between "facts" and "opinions."
8.  Use information from the book report organizer to write a book report.
I am an engaging, interactive teacher who encourages discussion, offers guided skill practice, provides oral reading support, and offers positive feedback as learners practice and master new skills.  I incorporate the creative arts into instructional experiences to teach new concepts.  

My doctoral degree is in education. My teaching certifications include elementary education (K-8) as well as secondary (grades 7-12) communication arts, English, speech and theater, and science education. I have more than 30 years of teaching experience in traditional and online classrooms.

Learners will use a book report organizer to complete a book report.  On DAY 1, they will read aloud "Dogs and More Dogs" and complete the book report organizer for homework.  On DAY 2, they will use information from the book report organizer to write a book report.  Learners will finish the book report for homework. Students may submit their book report organizer or book report to the teacher for feedback.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
