Class Experience

Introducing young children to different types of literature is crucial for their development as early literacy learners. This class is designed to do just that. Through poetry, songs, a fingerplay activity and a fiction and non-fiction read-aloud, students will be immersed in different genres of literacy under the umbrella of an engaging topic: a trip to the beach. The lesson will include beach related vocabulary and facts about the beach and many of the animals that live there. Students will be captivated by the colorful and interesting pictures and videos used throughout the lesson. I appear as a guide on this trip to the beach, at times in animated form. This lesson is self-paced so that students can watch and learn at the time that is best for them and multiple times if desired. I believe that the best learning occurs when students are having so much fun that they don't even realize that they are learning. This class is no exception and is designed to inspire a love of literacy and learning.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Dyonne and I am honored to be an Outschool teacher. I am currently a homeschooling mother of two. Before becoming a mom, I was a preschool/elementary school teacher for ten years. My experience ranges from teaching two-year old’s up to second graders. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development and a Master’s Degree in Reading, Language and Literacy Education.
I love teaching and believe that my purpose is to expand on the excitement for learning that young children have. The best way to do this is through interactions and activities that are highly engaging. My goal is for my students to have so much fun during our sessions that they do not even realize that they are learning.
Many of my classes will be reading, language and literacy based; however, I am looking forward to including math, science, and social studies within the classes that I offer.
I am an avid reader along with other hobbies which include cooking, spending time with family and taking long walks.
I look forward to meeting your child in my classes.
