I am an artist and photographer specializing in fine art, photography, and art education. I am also an avid reader and I love to discuss books and draw out my ideas and perceptions from them. In addition, I have been a homeschool educator for 16 years. I have taught children's art classes privately and through local after school and children's museum programs. Her photography has appeared in Parents Magazine and numerous photography blogs. I enjoy finding connections between things that don't seem connected upon first glance. To do that, I divide things down to their simplest parts and look for similarities. As a result I am able to break down seemingly complicated projects into simple step by step lessons. I also have a great appreciation for irony in art and life and try to infuse humor and silliness in my lessons and in my own work as well.
Homework will consist of reading the assigned chapters and completing any unfinished drawings. Homework on week 8 will ask students to create an alternate ending for the book. ****NOTE TO PARENTS*** This is primarily an art class in a book club environment. It is NOT a literary analysis class.
Students will need a copy of Wings of Fire: The Dragonet Prophecy. Students should have access to a way to print or view PDF reference drawings. Students should have paper, pencil, eraser, and whatever media they feel comfortable with for adding color- which is optional. Students are free to use whatever art supplies they choose, though recommendations can be provided upon request as well as tips on technique.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students are assessing themselves each week as they answer trivia questions and also answer questions relating to their artwork. Typically those questions will be based on a growth mindset of what they feel was best about each particular drawing and in what ways they feel they could improve the drawing.
4 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
****NOTE TO PARENTS*** This is primarily an art class in a book club environment. It is NOT a literary analysis class. It is detailed and complex drawing and is not recommended your younger learners.
