A grade can be given upon request at the completion of the course. Students must complete all homework to receive a grade.Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 8
Beginner Level
Ratios, rates, and proportions are key concepts in pre-algebra and algebra and in solving real-world problems. Students will explore these concepts at a slower pace using real-world contexts. As this is a beginning-level course, students do not need to have any experience with ratios, rates, or proportions. Students must have experience with the following concepts: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing, decimals, and fractions. This is a discussion based course, students should come to class ready to participate and discuss by having class in a quiet location with cameras on.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to write ratios as rates and unit rates.
Students will be able to graph rates and use those graphs to describe proportional relationships.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Missouri Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Master's Degree in Mathematics from Drury University
I am a non traditional teacher, no lectures here!
Instead my classes focus on being:
*Student Centered- they lead the pace
*Critical Thinking -complex tasks are given that may be a bit unusual but will cause students to think deeply
*Problem Solving- word problems to keep concepts in context
*Focus on discovering patterns- patterns is the basis of the study of algebra and higher levels of math thinking
*Students create their understanding versus being told what to think
I am constantly learning how to become a better math teacher! I have a Master's degree in Math Education but I don't believe that means I know everything. In fact I am constantly reading about the brain, and the best ways to teach math. I also am constantly evaluating my classes and content and making changes based on how learners interact with the material.
I have 13 years of experience in Education, and have taught math at all levels including adults.

In my down time, I love hanging with my husband, and two girls. We love to read books, play games and do math together (of course:)
