In this course we will take a dive into the basics of ratios. This will include relationships between part to whole, whole to part, and part to part. We will learn the three different ways that ratios can be written as well as how to write a sentence about a given ratio. My teaching style is very laid back and I encourage student collaboration and discussion. I utilize a lot of questioning strategies to challenge students to think outside the box. Students will be able to find the relationship between part to part ratios, part to whole ratios, and whole to part ratios. Students will also be able to write ratios in three different ways as well as write sentences about ratios (ex. For every 2 apples there are 3 oranges).
I am a 6th grade math teacher. Ratios are part of the curriculum that I have to teach each year to my 6th graders. We are currently covering our ratio unit at this time.
There will be a pre and post assessment for this course.
2 hours 15 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
