US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
Beginner Level
This class, designed as an intervention for young readers and ESL students, offers a range of benefits. It aims to deepen students' phonics knowledge, teach them essential sight words, expand their vocabulary, improve fluency, and boost their reading confidence. The small group setting ensures personalized attention, fostering a warm and caring atmosphere for children to learn and flourish. My instruction is tailored to support each child's reading, enabling them to rapidly progress to the next reading level. Is This Class Right For My Child? This class is designed for young readers, typically aged 5 to 7, who know the sounds of the alphabet and many sight words and can read simple books. An example of books at the beginning level of this class are the popular 'Bob Books'. Your child should be ready for this class if s/he can read the following passage easily. 'Mama frog and papa frog sat on a log. A bird was in the pond. The bird was big and tall. Jump! Hide!" Said papa.' This class is NOT SUITABLE for children who cannot read yet. Reading Levels The reading levels for this class start at simple reading levels (Guided Reading Levels B-C, typically corresponding to kindergarten level)and progress to more advanced levels (Guided Reading Levels E-F, usually achieved in first grade). This progression ensures that your child's reading skills will be developed at a pace that suits their learning needs. Class Format Every reading class meeting is a dynamic and interactive experience. The teaching techniques used are tailored to the learners' needs while reading a particular passage. This live, structured class encourages constant interaction between the teacher and students, fostering a sense of involvement for parents. The use of slides, video clips, hands-on activities, and discussions keeps students engaged and excited about learning. Literacy Activities Used In Class -analyzing and practicing vowel teams, CVC words & word families, -reviewing phonics and phonemic awareness, -reviewing spelling patterns, -examining how words work, -learning new vocabulary words, -rereading a familiar text on the screen, -reading a new text, -practicing reading strategies, -engaging in echo reading, choral reading, or partner reading to improve fluency, -and answering simple comprehension questions during different stages of the reading process. Examples Of Some Of The Beginning Books Read During The Beginning of this class include: -Bob Books -Loose Tooth -Kiss the Frog -I Will Not Eat the Cake These classes are learner-directed, and materials are chosen for each session depending on the learners' needs for that particular class at that particular time. We read new books each week. I understand that life can be unpredictable. You have the flexibility to pause the class for any week your child cannot attend and resume when you are ready, provided spots are available. This feature ensures that the class can easily fit into your child's schedule, giving you peace of mind. Or, if you want to ensure that your spot is saved, you can watch the class videos for any missed classes. Zoom Expectations: Our guided reading lessons consist of constant interaction between the teacher and the students, making it essential to have their microphone and video on during class. Please ensure that your child has a quiet background not to distract the class.
