This is an advanced beginner to intermediate class. I require the students to already have basic knowledge of ballet terminology, to feel comfortable using one hand on the barre and to have already been a part of or currently in a ballet program. Overall, this is a fun class that focuses on teaching correct ballet techniques positively while encouraging ones confidence and knowledge. In this class the student will be a part of a tradition ballet barre. I will demonstrate all the...
To have a happy and confident atmosphere while improving and strengthening one ballet techniques. I personally feel that the fundamentals of dance come for having great ballet technique which starts at the ballet barre.
I live in NYC and am a professional performer. Growing up I was trained in a preprofessional ballet program at Allegheny Ballet Company while completing summer programs at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, PA and Alvin Alley, NYC. I have a BA from The Pennsylvania State University in Theater and Dance and also graduated from American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC. I love dancing and am still working with many professional in NYC at Steps on Broadway and Broadway Dance Center. I strive to teach in a positive, encouraging and fun atmosphere while teaching correct technique.
There is no homework for this class. If student would like more classes, I do private lessons.
Barre: The student will need something to hold onto. A chair with a back is great to use if one does not have a portable ballet barre. Clothing: Please wear clothing you feel comfortable moving in. Students are welcomed to wear any leotards and tights/ leggings, shorts, t-shirts and workout clothing. I do encourage tighter fitting clothing so I can see the shapes of the student's body Foot wear: Depending on what floor the student will be using a student can use ballet slippers, sock or even bare feet (please no pointe shoes). Money: Please do not feel that you have to spend any money on buying a ballet barre or equipment for this class. This class was meant to work with the materials that you already have around you.
There is no assessments. This class is provided to build upon ones confidence and strengths. I will give be giving feedback and corrections throughout the lesson to make sure each step is done properly so the students are getting the full benefits of the ballet barre. If one would like an assessment of their work I do teach private classes as well!
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
If the student has any injuries please contact me before signing up for this class to make sure that they will be safe during the lesson. I always recommend for the students to stretch before and after each lesson.
