Class Experience

Important Note: CEFR: all levels. #superstar

Learner shall first be cleared by his/her Physician to engage in the physical practice of Yoga.

In all of my Yoga classes, proprioception and interoception will be further explored and cultivated.

In this Yoga class to be individually tailored for the neurodiverse child (autism spectrum disorder, hyperactivity disorder and others), he/she/they will learn yogic techniques, such as poses, breathing control exercises and meditation that will help the child better understand themselves, self-regulate, increase awareness both in the body and emotions, manage the stress of daily living, while increasing self-esteem. The class is structured as a sacred, calm space, where the whole child is met and necessary accommodations are made to best fit the child's preferences. The quality of the instructor's voice is mindfully modulated. Depending on the child's needs, music may or may not be introduced. Space will be plain. Lightning will be soothing. Class will start and end the same way each time. Language will be literal. Learner's preferences and/or willingness to participate are respected, all within an environment that is kind and supportive. Class is a cheerful, positive, balancing/enriching, a safe zone for your child to explore and experience his/her own ability to feel well. For these reasons and for gauging Learner's interest level and to be able to adjust accordingly, I require open mics and video in my classes so there is a sense of community and engagement with the material. Class may be repeated for wellbeing support as each class will pursue the same goal, but include different types of poses and breathing exercises. There is no requirement for this class. Safety First: Learner shall be cleared by his/her Physician to engage in the physical practice of Yoga. By registering Learner in this class, Guardian/Parent(s) acknowledge(s) they understand there are always risks in any physical program, assume(s) all risks, and waive(s) any rights to file any claim against the instructor in regards to Learner's participation in class.
Learning Goals
In this mindful Yoga class, taught in the traditional, gently-paced approach of synchronizing body/mind/breath, like fluid meditation, student will learn to become aware of how he/she is feeling, and how to interact in a way that feels reassuring. The child will further develop stress management skills through helpful Yogic techniques.
