Class Experience

Welcome to Preschool! In this multi-day class we will cover all topics normally covered in a Preschool class. In this session we will meet three times a week for four weeks. By having this as a multi-day class, students will be able to form connections with other students and form a school community. This is Session 8 but you don't need to have participated in other sessions to sign up; new students can join at any time!

This interactive class will be conducted in a Circle Time format. In Circle Time, we'll learn by having fun singing songs, playing games, and moving around. We'll focus on Literacy by reading books, singing the alphabet song, practicing letter recognition and beginning sounds, and working on pre-writing activities. We'll focus on Math by working on number recognition, counting our friends, practicing one-to-one correspondence, pattern recognition, and sorting by shape/color/size. We'll focus on Science by talking about the following topics and more: the weather, our 5 senses, magnets, sink or float, and nature. Children learn through play, and sprinkled through all of our lessons will be many opportunities for music, movement, and play.

We'll also work on Social-Emotional development. In preschool, children learn social skills like taking turns, listening to one another, and sharing. They learn executive function skills like sitting still and following a routine. They'll develop social-emotional skills like understanding that we're all different (and that's okay!), how to deal with big feelings, how to be a friend, and many more.

Our daily schedule will include: Welcome, Hello Song, Morning Message, Active Games and Songs, Story Time, and a Goodbye Song. We'll have special activity days where we'll have dance parties, scavenger hunts, and Show and Tell.

This is the eighth session in a series of 4-week sessions that together will make up a full school year. The themes for these four weeks in 2022 are:
- Week 1: Earth Day/Environmental Awareness
- Week 2: Forests and Bears
- Week 3: Families/Mother's Day
- Week 4: Feelings/Emotions

I look forward to welcoming your child to preschool! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me ahead of time so that we can discuss them and ensure your children have an easy transition to class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Heather, and I am an online educator and a Mom. I have my Lead Teacher Preschool certificate, and am in the process of becoming a certified Early Childhood Education teacher. Before I became interested in teaching Preschool, I earned both a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Science, and held positions in Environmental Education (teaching hands-on Science classes to young kids) and in Environmental Policy (writing legislation to make our world a little better). When I'm not teaching, I like to spend time with my family (and dog Gracie!) kayaking, hiking, gardening, quilting, and cooking.

My passion now is to teach young children not only important skills like their numbers and letters, but also to teach them how to form connections with each other. So while we'll learn about colors and shapes and work on pre-writing skills, we'll also work on social-emotional skills like learning how to share and how to wait our turn.

Children learn through play, and we’ll do plenty of that in my classes! My preschool classes will be taught in an interactive form, with the children getting a chance to learn while having fun. I'll be teaching classes that include Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, and Movement.

I'm looking forward to meeting all of your children, and teaching them in a supportive and fun learning environment!
