Class Experience

Learners will improve their knowledge of scientific vocabulary by being introduced to words such as density and molecules.
Learners will improve their scientific knowledge of conducting experiments by conducting their own experiment.
Required Materials:
Main Experiment:
A tall see through container (I am using a Mason jar but any tall container will do)
Light color corn syrup (color it purple using your food coloring)
Dish soap (blue color like Dawn or green color like Palmolive)
Water (needs to be the color opposite of your dish soap)
Olive oil
Rubbing alcohol (color it red using your food coloring)
Food coloring
A dropper (to apply the alcohol layer by dropping it down the side of the jar)

Mini Experiment:
Two identical containers (I will be using two standard drinking glasses)
Marbles (About 20--6 for one container and the rest for the second container)
35 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This does involve the ability to pour liquids in specific areas within the jar in order for the experiment to work properly. Some assistance may be needed if you feel your child requires guidance.
