Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, Outschool families!

My name is ChaoChun (Jill) Li. My students called me Ms. Jill or 李老師. I studied in Canada and have been living in North America for over 20 years. My first teaching job was as a preschool teacher in Taiwan. That was when I falling in love with teaching. Kids have been part of my life ever since. From after-school program at Say Yes to Education in Syracuse, N.Y., Chinese Sunday school, to early intervention program at my local school district. I have worked in varieties of teaching settings and happy to be part of the learning journey in my students' life. I am also a parent and have been homeschooling my daughter Mandarin Chinese since she was one. She is in second grade now and is able to write and read Mandarin Chinese storybooks on her own.

I love to craft and especially craft with children. Crafting is an important part of learning in childhood. Through crafting, students experience the possibilities of an ordinary object transforming into something new and enjoy being part of the process. I have participated in many craft fairs in the past years. I made origami jewelry, handmade girl dresses, and felt animal brooches. Recently, my daughter and I started a YouTube channel to share creative ideas on doll crafting.

Arts and crafts are one of the great ways to support language learning. They make a class engaging and fun and are extremely helpful in forming a positive association with a new language.
I can't wait to teach Mandarin Chinese and craft to your learners.

Education and Teaching Philosophy:
I received my bachelor’s degree from York University in Toronto, Canada. I did an interdisciplinary study on Psychology and Economics. Self-Fulfilling Prophecy was one of the life-changing researches I learned from my psychology class. From my teaching experience, it proved that learning depends greatly on the self-fulfilling prophecy of the teacher too! Children will become what you said they will be. I always keep in mind that teaching is not about showing students how fast you can solve a math problem but how you get to know each individual and explore each student’s potentials.
